Written by one of the most creative contemporary artists of
puppet theatre, this book is concerned with aesthetics in the world of Puppetry. The
author has shown how the space and time in puppetry can be discussed at the same form as
cosmic space and different orders of time.
The author, while demonstrating his deep understanding of
the history, theory and aesthetics of puppet theatre, explores the process of creating
this art form from its inception and presents different themes and characters using
different techniques, ranging from the marionette to rod, glove and shadow.

| MICHAEL MESCHE, a Polish Scholar,
acquired deep interest in history, theory and aesthetics of puppet theatre. His first
production was the medieval farce la Farce de Maitre Pathelin in 1949. He had an overall
view when he travelled around Europe and became aware with them of the artistic goals and
potentialities of marionette theatre. Siegel's tutelaage in Germany, provided him with
real basic training. It was here that he learnt the techniques and aesthetics of
marionettes. He is a self taught artiste, self reliant and with an instinct to push
onwards. |
